Hotel Review: Fairmont Abu Dhabi
My love of the Fairmont chain might be getting a bit obvious now, but the Fairmont in Abu Dhabi had me excited. I couldn’t wait to review another Fairmont hotel. It’s unlike its Canadian properties with the traditional decor and colour palette. Oh no, Abu Dhabi Fairmont Bab Al Bahr matches the city it’s located in perfectly. It looks super modern and opulent, the perfect hotel style for The Emirates state.
The hotel lobby sets the tone for the entire hotel experience, and the Fairmont pulled out a few aces here. Mirrored pillars clashed beautifully with the smooth glass frontage, the textured ceiling in a gorgeous blue tone sweeping above and glistening polished marble flooring underneath your feet.
Check in was as seamless as one would expect in a 5 star property, so it’s up to your room to check out the view. The hotel is located just opposite the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, a stunning white marble mosque masterpiece. Make sure you have booked a Fairmont View Room that overlooks it- it’s a beautiful architectural piece , and the perfect view to wake up to the next morning!
The room is very neutral, and makes the best of calming colours- browns, fauns and caramels, you will feel right at home instantly. I loved how the bathroom was laid out, with the twin basins in the “hallway” with two rooms coming off it- one being the toilet, and the other being the deep bathtub and rain shower. Bathroom products supplied were the same Fairmont branded La Labo Rose 31 items that I had picked up recently at the last Fairmont property. It’s becoming my signature scent!
The lighting is soft and the feel of the room is remarkably pleasant. It’s perfect for relaxing in after a day of shopping or exploring the Ferrari World at Yas Island. In a standard room (which is what I stayed in) you will have access to basic office facilities- There are many business travellers in Abu Dhabi, so the room is well equipped.
Hot tip: if you sign up to the Fairmont Presidents club, you will receive free wifi in all of their properties, along with monthly updates on the brand. Sign up at https://www.fairmont.com/fpc/
After settling into your room after the flight, you are now probably ready to grab a bite to eat? You came to the right hotel if you like good food! Famous UK chef Marco Pierre White has a self-named restaurant within the hotel, The award winning- Marco Pierre Hotel Steakhouse and Grill. Book a table for a fantastic steak dinner! Otherwise the other bars and restaurants within the hotel will most likely satisfy you. Among them, Italian, Lebanese, casual dining and a chocolate specialist. Delicious!
The next morning, you can join a restaurant downstairs for breakfast, or for roughly the same price, have it delivered, and munch away without having to brush your hair first. I ordered the eggs Benedict, which arrived with the eggs cooked perfectly. Everything was presented beautifully, with more than enough condiments included. Normally I shy away from room service breakfast, but this time, I embraced it, loved it and am actually endorsing it!
Planning a trip to Europe? Why not book a one or two night stop over in Abu Dhabi?
